Reading: We will continue our study on the fantasy novel of Harry Potter. Starting in January, we will go to Read 180. Your historical fiction Roaring Review is due on 01/05/09.

SCIENCE: Beginning ECOSYSTEMS. We will be doing web organizers for the three forest biomes. Expect to have at least 3-5 facts under each sub title on each of your webs. This will be decided by the differentiation scale. Also, begin thinking about which biome you will develop into a diorama for the final project of this trimester.
MATH: Section 1.7: PROBLEM SOLVING PLANS: This sections deals with deciding which plan or operation to use to solve various WORD problems. You will have homework on a nightly basis. We will be working on extended responses as well.
LA: Gold packets with your list of differentiated words will go home in Monday and is due back on Wednesday completed. We will be working on writing paragraphs that serve the purpose of explaining. What will you explain to your classmates in your paragraphs?

READING: We are continuing our independent novel and reports. Everyone has a book that is at their ability level. Your book report is due on Thursday 2/14/08. If you have a 90% or better, you will re-write it into paragraph form prior to getting a homework pass. Remember all passes must be signed by your parent and attached to the homework. Passes are not allowed on either book reports or math assignments.
MATH: We will be reviewing geometry formulas and finding the perimeters, areas, and other formulas. When we are working in class, if you know what to do, go ahead. Your final score must be 90% or better to move further. Each of you have a math goal.... keep that goal in mind!

Reminder: No school on Friday, January 18 due to an Institute Day and no school on Monday, January 21 due to Martin Luther King's birthday. Enjoy the long weekend.
LA: Continuing with Gold Packets. Expect a quiz on YOUR words, definitions and sentence structure on THURSDAY January 17. Expect homework on Monday and Wednesday.
MATH: Adding/subtracting fractions, estimating fractions & decimals, and problem solving. Each night you will need to come up with 5 of your own problems to present to the class on each topic that is covered in class.
ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Journaling and Extended responses to math problems.
READING: Group reading with comprehension checks and independent novels. Remember to read 30 minutes every night.
